1- Restart your laptop
Whenever you encounter computer problems, this is the first thing to try before doing further troubleshooting, because restarting the computer is a quick and easy process, and it may solve the problems you have with the keyboard.
The good news is that you don’t need a keyboard to restart your laptop, all you have to do is open the Start menu, click on Power, then select the Restart option.
If you are also having problems with the mouse and touchpad, press and hold the power button on your computer for a few seconds, after which the device will turn off, then restart it by pressing the power button, then check whether the keyboard problem is resolved from During this process or not.

2- We must determine whether it is a hardware problem or a software problem?
This step will narrow your problem, and reveal if the laptop keyboard is not working due to a hardware or software problem.
Here’s how to do it: Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS screen.
You can do this by pressing a certain key repeatedly during the start of the computer, and any key pressed to open the BIOS screen depends on the model of the laptop that you own and it is usually F2, F10 or Delete, and the appropriate key to open the BIOS screen is displayed in the section The bottom of the screen, while the computer is booting.
If you can access the BIOS screen, you are facing a software problem that caused the keyboard to malfunction.
But if you cannot access the BIOS screen, then you are likely facing a hardware problem that caused the keyboard to malfunction.
3- What do you do if the problem is in the software?
The first step: If the keyboard is completely locked, you may have accidentally turned on the Filter Keys feature, because when you hold down the right SHIFT key for 8 seconds, you will hear a tone and the “Filter Keys” icon will appear in the taskbar, symbolized by an alarm clock icon, And you will find that the keyboard is locked and you cannot type anything.
To unlock the keyboard, you have to press and hold the right SHIFT key for 8 seconds again to turn off Filter Keys.
Or double-click on the Filter Keys icon on the taskbar as shown in the previous image, and through the window that will appear, deactivate the Filter Keys feature, then click the Ok button.

The second step: The keyboard may become locked due to a wrong or outdated keyboard driver, to get your keyboard back to work, you may need to reinstall the keyboard driver as follows:
Right-click on the “My Computer” icon from the desktop and then choose “Properties“, and from the window that will appear, open the “Device Manager” and expand the category of “keyboards“, right-click on the “Standard PS/2 Keyboard” and then select the “Uninstall device” option, Once the driver is deleted, reboot your laptop, and the driver should reinstall automatically.
Now, test out the keyboard again to see if the problem is solved.

The third step: Well, there is nothing left for us from the software solutions other than to reinstall the Windows operating system again, it is possible that the laptop keyboard is not working due to some kind of virus or a bug in the current Windows operating system.

4- What do you do if the problem is in the hardware?
The first step: remove the battery from the laptop, then connect the device to operate it directly from the power source, as sometimes the battery may cause problems related to the keyboard, especially if the battery temperature increases.
